About Kanzeon Bosatsu, aka the Merciful Goddess
Kanzeon... Merciful Goddess... the embodiment of compassion and love. Well, Minekura's version is a bit different.
In Gensomaden Saiyuki, Kanzeon has a "Fates-like" position. She comments on the destiny of Sanzo's crew, and observes the developing drama below. The woman seems to know everything, yet she mentions very little. She'll even pop in on Sanzo to give him tidbits of wisdom... as if she were a meddling, bossy mature woman. Kanzeon also comes off as flippant, narcissitic and a bit lewd. Even Jiroushin, her faithful subordinate, tries to curb her brash ways. She says exactly what's on her mind, much to Jiroushin's chagrin *snerk*.
But Kanzeon truly is the embodiment of benevolence. At one point, she explains to Jiroushin that it is the job of the gods in Tenkai to watch over those who have chosen to live, and not judge them. For she is certain that the outcome of Sanzo-ikkou's journey will be eventful. Hey, she was the catalyst for this whole story anyway ^.^
What about Saiyuki Gaiden? Well, because it takes place in Tenkai [Heaven], Kanzeon has more of a prominent role. She watches over the paths of Sanzo-ikkou's previous incarnations, her nephew Konzen [Sanzo], Tenpou [Hakkai] & Kenren [Gojyo]. Add a 500-years younger Goku, and you get an exciting time in Tenkai.
Reload? Yup, same baba-snarkiness resides there, too.
Why do I like her?
Because... she's an interesting character. Kanzeon adores those who do not possess the purest souls-- but have a strong will to live. So you can see why she's all up in Sanzo's business.
