A bit about Pip & da Geese
In the manga, Pip Bernadotte is the new commander of Hellsing Organization's paramilitary forces. After the Valentine Brothers wrecked havoc on the Hellsing compound, about 90% of their agents were lost. Walter didn't want to recruit from the British military because the transfer would raise suspicion. So... he did his research and devised a way to replenish their fallen numbers.
Walter chose the Wild Geese, an elite mercenary unit led by Pip. Why? Because the Geese are not run-of-the-mill mercs. They are military professionals, complete with their own medics. At what price, you ask? Walter offered them an attractive contract. The Hellsing Organization will pay off their debts... and give them a sweet salary to become the new army. Pip couldn't refuse Walter's lovely offer.
But wait... more Pip!
There's more to Pip than meets the eye. Hirano gives us tidbits of his personality in Volumes 2-5. Laying the foundation with truth hidden in the humor. But it wasn't until Volumes 6 & 7 that we get to the heart of Pip's character, and we fall hard for him. Damn you, Hirano! Why?! Then you realize-- it's essential to the storyline *sniff* and for Seras to transcend. And Pip lives on... in a metaphysical way. Now that's a true partnership, body & soul.
